Without doubt over the last few years one of the most noticeable trends has been the rise of rose wine.  Rose wines have become more popular for a number of reasons not least because of the attractive nature of the wines colour.  They often have more fruit flavours than white wines and can be extremely versatile with different foods and this can make them a great choice for when diners are each eating different dishes.  The low tannin levels make them a perfect match for foods high in acidity so make great partners for dressed salads, full flavoured fish and chicken dishes with fruit based sauces.

Most rose wines are produced using the skin contact method.  Red grapes are crushed with the skins coming in to contact with the juice for around two to three days.  The shorter the contact time with the skins the lighter the wine will be.  The main exception to this are sparkling roses which are typically made from a blend of red and white grapes.
