Origins: Slovenia

Slovenia is nestled in between Italy, the Adriatic Sea, Croatia, Austria and Hungary. It is no surprise that such a great country had to develop a spirits industry as they were invaded many times. Absinthe was their category of choice, and some believe the category was first developed during the wars with the Romans and Byzantine Empire. Whatever the truth, being nestled next to Italy a great spirits producer, Slovenia had to be influenced, so it probably was the Romans who brought them spirit production.
