Origins: Cuba

Cuba is the melting pot of rum and the values of rum are emblematic of the Cuban people. At the start of the 17th century rum was being made from sugar cane. By 1800 Cuba had become known as the worldís sugar reserve and the Cubans became rum specialists. Cuba is famous for the creation of two of the worldís best tasting rums, Bacardi Superior and Havana Club. Cuba is also famous for the creation of many of the world's classic rum cocktails. The most famous being the Mojito, and the Daiquiri. Cuba's capital Havana has two of the most famous bars in the world, Bodeguita Del Medio and El Floridita where Ernest Hemingway enjoyed many a classic rum cocktail. One of the most enjoyed rum cocktails the Cuba Libre took it's name from the Cuban Liberation Army during the wars of independence who with the help of the Americans adding Coca-Cola to the island created the infamous drink.
