Origins: Brazil

Brazil is the birth place of both Cachaça and the cocktail the Caipirinha. The mix of limes, sugar and Cachaça made from Brazilian sugar cane was invented in the 1700s.

Some say the limes were used to hide the rough taste of the original sugar cane alcohol. Others say the limes were added for refreshment.

Whatever the truth is the Caipirinha is Brazil's favourite drink, and it is drunk in many style bars across the globe.
