Beer or a Wine?

There is so much innovation coming from the beer industry at the moment, and especially the boutique beer category that I am finding it difficult to keep up to date with it all. It’s great news because it means the beer industry is booming. As I have said many times before craft ale is doing so well in both the US and UK. You only have to walk into a UK supermarket and see the plethora of choice available.

So with this in mind, what do you think about Blue Moon’s Vintage Blonde Ale wine beer? Yes I said wine beer. It is a strong ale at 8.5% abv, but it is brewed with malted wheat and concentrated Chardonnay grape juice, then aged for a few months. In technical language it sounds foul, but taste wise, it ain’t half bad at all.

It has been launched across the US, and a Sauvignon Blanc version is coming in the near future. It has been getting good reviews, so it won’t be long before it appears in Waitrose. I bet it is hard to differentiate Blue Moon’s Vintage Blonde Ale from the perceived classic ales. It is such a great innovation by Keith Villa who is a brewer by trade and a wine maker at home. Good job he is not a distiller as well, as the brew could be rather potent.
